Stillborn 06:52
I feel your heart inside me I feel your warm kick touch gently, touch gently I wish for you the best things in life Sleep now my baby, touch gently, touch gently No care in the world can harm you, I’m here Soon I will hold you on my skin Build all those strong bonds that bind us forever Blood is thicker than water they say Sleep now my baby, touch gently, touch gently Love will always provide whatever we need Mummy is here God bless Because you can’t progress It’s best you understand That you’ve been dealt your hand Best you know your place A status can’t be replaced Looked upon with scorn Cos you have been stillborn Best you know your place A status can’t be replaced Looked upon with scorn Cos you have been stillborn

Saline 06:52
If I say why Will you cry to please me? Tell me lies Fail to try, say goodbye It’s easy Eyes cry, tears dry Tongues tie, release me Blue sky, mind’s eye Do or die, appease me Fine chilling mime And I don’t know if I can believe in all the lies Calcify And I don’t know if I can survive the feeling Losing all that’s mine Amputee cut from me Setting free, deceiving Leaving be, lost at sea Absentee, you’re grieving Fine chilling mime And I don’t know if I can believe in all the lies Crucify And I don’t know if I can survive the feeling Losing all that’s mine All, hold the wall, shallow call, doubters all, face the wall Lovers fall, face the wall, losers all Fine chilling mime And I don’t know if I can believe in all the lies Crucify And I don’t know if I can survive the feeling Losing all that’s mine I won’t be the good for nothing I won’t be the same old feeling I won’t be the one you turn to I won’t be the phase you go through

Living under the thunderclouds and the rain Sleeping cold and hungry again While the people with their business all rush by Never pausing to ask or reason why Let alone make contact eye to eye We are lost No one knew me They saw straight through me It’s an awkward truth But here I am the living proof As the tide of people leave the rocks exposed In the doorways of shops long since closed They rush home to their family and their friends But for us this nightmare never ends And the dark cold once more descends We are lost We seek assistance Against dogged resistance Where are all those equal chances? The same circumstances? And as you walk right past With all your privilege and class I really hope and wish you Would see the bigger issue
4.
When tomorrow comes I hope we’ll see that there can be Some peace and understanding between us For when tomorrow comes And we leave our safety and step out bravely Into the world and leave behind our weakness And all the clouds melt into crowds of people celebrating The air is filled with unfulfilled contentment permeating When tomorrow comes Release your soul from all control Dispel the chains of frame and tension For when tomorrow comes We must walk the line, not be defined By ghosts of fear and apprehension And we will cry and say goodbye to feelings full of darkness And see them drift into the mist, so fractured and so starless Until that day I’ll dream When tomorrow comes A time so sought in days so short It seems it’s neither myth or legend For when tomorrow comes And it surely must from out the dust It will be as we all reckoned And all the clouds melt into crowds of people celebrating The air is filled with unfulfilled contentment permeating Too real to be a dream Until that day we should never, no never stop believing Remember those we have lost so close but let go of the grieving Tomorrow may be a better day the sun may send us skyward Free from all the angst and pain and feelings undesired When tomorrow comes I hope we’ll see that there can be Some peace and understanding between us For when tomorrow comes And we leave our safety and step out bravely Into the world and leave behind our weakness And we will cry and say goodbye to feelings full of darkness And see them drift into the mist, so fractured and so starless And all the clouds melt into crowds of people celebrating The air is filled with unfulfilled contentment permeating For when tomorrow comes, there will, they’ll be no darkness And so I dream

Here we witness the life of a child Degraded and scorned, constantly defiled Children it seems can never have dreams They’re seen but never heard Brought up to know about violence and fear Victorian rules he was made to revere He’ll make amends when the red mist descends Seen but never heard Behind these eyes I escape from it all And build great castles in the sky Create an army who will answer my call And remove me to a fortress high Who would I be if I wasn’t me? I could be anyone I wanted to be A leader of people in another land A tamer of nightmares upon command Who would I be if I wasn’t me? I could be anyone I wanted to be A daring sea captain on the ocean wave A spy in the dark escaping a close shave And so, I soar high up into the air And leave all darkness behind For there’s no one here to make me beware True life, a time out of mind Who would I be if I wasn’t me? I could be anyone I wanted to be A leader of people in another land A tamer of nightmares upon command Who would I be if I wasn’t me? I could be anyone I wanted to be A daring sea captain on the ocean wave A spy in the dark escaping a close shave

Lights are out on Neon Drive Unprotected in my bed Behind the walls it comes alive Shoots again into my head I see the red dust shadow In the corner of my eye Another child is calling "No, no, where did my Daddy go? He's flown, I'm alone When I'm grown up I'll fly too" Take these things, fold your wings Words can't bring you back It's been this way forever Everything I thought was mine Been haunted by reminders since 1969 I keep the shadow walled in In the deepest part of me And still the child is calling "No, no, why did my Daddy go away? None will say, when I wake up I'll know" Tears I've tried so hard to hide always break inside Take these things and fold your wings Words can't bring you back
8.
Sitting here alone my patience wearing thin It’s all about you, your single point of view I’m expected to take this on the chin There’s nothing to discuss. It’s a pointless circus But it seems as though you always have denied Looking back at shadows, dodging poison arrows How do you know if you’ve never even tried Trying to adjust. So what about us? I wanted things for you that money can’t provide A place in my heart, but you made it fall apart With all that I gave you your need intensified Learning how to take was your biggest mistake Like a butterfly raise your wings in restless flight Looking for your next fix despite the pain you inflict I’d take it all for you to be with me tonight I’d do what I must. So what about us? But it seems as though you always have denied Looking back at shadows, dodging poison arrows How do you know if you’ve never even tried Trying to adjust. So what about us? Ad libs to end fade: You always have denied it’s all about you Your single point of view You never even tried trying to adjust So what about us?
9.
From the moment we emerge and put our faith in others We pray they’ll always care As we grow our family around us, we know If we run home they’ll still be there Making friends for life or so we tell ourselves While school days mould our dreams First kiss, first fight, first taste of those who’d put us down We struggle through our teens We leave our education, leave our family home Cast all childhood things aside We say goodbye to those who’ve loved without condition And into the world we stride And as we walk life’s twisted roads we forge new bonds new families Find a place to put down roots Then comes that broken your heart that tears your perfect world apart And pulls the rug from underfoot Even in the good times we all must fight our little wars Losing friends along the way We tend our casualties and bury all our fallen comrades Wiping endless tears away But as we learn to cope We share our strength, we share our hope To find the road to better days The wounds that we sustain Will heal and dull the pain But the scars don’t fade away They say what doesn’t kill you Only serves to make you stronger I should be invincible by now And so I shed my skin Put on my suit of armour And battle on somehow So I shed my skin Put on my suit of armour And battle on somehow
10.
When society forgets who it stands for And the losses seem easy to bear When the people who shone like beacons of hope Fall silent, not seeming to care When nothing is new and all that we have Is traded on all our past glories We'll throw in the towel and turn the last page Of life and other short stories

A huge thank you to some very special people who lent their services to help make this album:

First of all to Suzi James of Fearful Symmetry for superb guitar work, strings and e-violin as well as friendship, inspiration, laughs, remote recording and a handy second pair of ears. You can admire Suzi’s skills on:

Stillborn (Guitars, e-Violin & Strings Arrangement)
Saline (Guitars, e-Violin & Strings Arrangement)
The Big Issue (Lead Guitar)
Seen But Never Heard (Guitars)
Just Making Shore (E-Violin, Additional keyboards and Guitar)
Red Dust Shadow (Guitars)

In essence, I couldn’t have made this album with out Suzi.

I also couldn’t have done this without some amazing vocals (I am still pinching myself), so a massive thank you to these lovely people:

Clare Shorthouse Fowler of Dandelion Charm (Stillborn)
Yael Shotts of Fearful Symmetry (Saline)
Michael Brown of Outside In (The Big Issue)
Elaine Samuels of Kindred Spirit Band (When Tomorrow Comes)
Martin Haggarty of Long Earth (Seen But Never Heard)
Lisa Farley (Red Dust Shadow)
Barbie Beck Kelley of Wind (What About Us?)
Andy Nixon of Freedom To Glide (My Suit of Armour)

Thank you also to the very talented Paul Dews for his donation of cover artwork. You will be hearing Paul’s vocal contribution on volume 2.

Also, special thanks to some people and bands who allowed me to cover their songs for charity:
Jem Godfrey of Frost* for Saline
Michael Holmes (IQ) for Red Dust Shadow
Martin Haggarty and Mike Baxter of Long Earth for My Suit of Armour

Thanks to Darren Selesnow, my ex-writing partner in The Hollow Moon, for allowing me to include What About Us? and playing guitar and bass on the track.

Finally thanks to the following people for support and advice along the way:
John Holden, Bob Prigmore, Emma Roebuck, Shaun Geraghty, Steve Pilkington, Larne Peters, Eddie McFadden, Graham Harfleet, Nihal and George at Prog’n’Roll, Iain Harris, Pat Sanders and Paul Farley.
